A BRIEF HISTORY OF THE 2002 REGISTRY ON THE INTERNET
The
original BMW 2002 registry web site was developed by '02 owner Neil Gordon
of Pennsylvania. The official start date is believed to be in early
1999.
Unfortunately, our friend Neil passed away of cancer in Jan 2004. His
original work wasn’t built to be easily modified unless Neil did it, and
the domain name and hosting went into arrears of the site as all of Neil’s
resources were redirected at killing his cancer.
The original site featured color chips, tidbits about 2002 in the form
of trivia, and a way to submit registry information.
As the keeper of the registry data and ongoing web site costs, in
early 2001 under Rob Torres' direction, the torch was passed to me to get
it rebuilt. The registry remained untouched but was never forgotten while
I worked on my own projects.
Before it went down into the cyber-bit-bucket, I managed to drain the
original registry site of all the content and information and stored it
for future re-purposing.
During Neil's illness I discovered that the domain called bmw2002registry.com was
not used and secured it for Rob for the purposes of rebuilding the
registry on that name if other probate or legal matters that might put at
risk the transferal of the domain registration on Neil’s death.
Fortunately, we have both names (2002registry.com) and one web site will serves
either domain name.
The original data has been stored away since late 2001. The database
was broken to the point it would no longer accept new entries. The
link below will take you to a "cleaned up" version of that data I have
stored for this new site. It's there for historical purposes in the
event you can't find your data from the new data supplied by owners and
keepers of such information.
